The careful upbringing of horses is the main job in a breeding facility. Here the course for the horses life and the success of the breeder is set. At Merit Welsh Cobs we keep the weanlings in permanent groups. They spend the winter in an open stable with access to a sand paddock, are fed individually and are also daily out at feed. They move to a big pasture in the summer, which ensures a good development. Autumn and winter are sometimes used for my so called “cultural days”. The young horses meet out at feed every day, but spend at least some nights in the stable, where they get halter trained, learn how to be tied, how to give hooves and how to be lead. That way they can enjoy the “wild “ life in summer but are still devoted to people.

A lot of riders apreciate the kindness of our young cobs and buy them a lot sooner, I sometimes like. But a nice, new home for life and the prospect that they jet trained well and are cared for, makes selling easier.

LOADS AND LOADS OF JOY AND SUCCESS WITH THEIR HORSES TO THE NEW OWNERS. THANK YOU  FOR THE LOVE AND CARE YOU GIVE THEM EVERY DAY!

Just sold:

The plan was to prepare Roscoe for the stallion grading during wintertime, but I had to alter my plans in November:

Marina and Martin saw the impressive black colt and now Roscoe is going to be their future leisure horse and has therefore been made a gelding. Roscoe like most of my horses, moves to an appropriate stable not far away.

An andalusian stallion on Spains coastline?

No, this is Roscoe during one of his walks in the close by gravel pit.

Regionalschau in Bad Segeberg 2006

Roscoe, perfectly shown by Martin, reaches a very good third place in the strong gelding class

Still grazing and playing with the others, but Ilka has been watching Carlsson for a while and buys the yearling in June. He moves in August and meets his old friend Cardi, who is the same age and both of them enjoy being together.

On the summer pasture:

Carlsson and Mascot

Julia bought Mascot when he was a yearling and left him to stay with us in this for him familiar enviroment to ensure a good upbringing.

They have spent the winter going on long walks and a bit of round pen training and so Mascot can already handle various situations in the countryside and in traffic. He is not easily upset anymore.

Before sending Mascot on a summer holiday on our summer pasture, their work was crowned with great success:

Mascot won the gelding class for all sections, with him being the youngest competitor in his class, at the IG Welsh Regionalschau Schleswig-Holstein/ Hamburg.

Mascot and Julia on their way to gain a victory.

The two year old is very well developed, trained exemplary and stands already at 14,9 hands

Reaching her goal:

Sabine sitting on her own welsh cob for the first time.

Sabine wanted to own a welsh cob for years and in summer 2006 her dream came true. After lots of visits on the pasture, Tam Lin convinced her that he wanted to be her “ all-purpose horse”.

Tam has learned a lot during the first weeks of his training an so she could quickly ride him for the first time.
